GMC brings the Canyon to the UAE in one form only — the AT4X, the hardest-edged version of the mid-size truck rather than the fleet one. The AT4X belongs to the Canyon generation launched in 2022.
How much does the GMC Canyon cost in the UAE?
AED 226,000 for the AT4X CC, and that is the expensive end of the mid-size pickup market. What it buys is hardware rather than badges: front and rear locking differentials, 271 mm of ground clearance and 583 Nm from the 2.7 L turbocharged engine. Against a mid-range rival it looks dear; against a purpose-built desert truck it does not.
What does the AT4X actually give you over a normal pickup?
Both differentials lock, the suspension is tuned for speed over rough ground rather than for carrying weight, and the clearance changes the lines you can take in soft sand. The trade is a firm empty ride on tarmac and a shorter bed than a full-size truck offers. It is a weekend machine that commutes well, not a work truck with extras.
GMC Canyon or Ford Ranger?
The Canyon is the better-engineered off-roader and the calmer of the two at speed on sand, which is what most mid-size trucks here are really bought for. The Ford Ranger spans a far wider price range and has a version at almost every budget. The Toyota Hilux is the default work truck and the resale champion — the Canyon beats both on capability and neither on price.
What does a GMC Canyon cost to run in the UAE?
Reasonable for something this capable: about 10 Km/L from the four-cylinder turbo, comfortably ahead of any V8 pickup. Tyres are what bite — the tall all-terrains it comes on wear quickly on hot tarmac and cost more than road rubber to replace. Al Ghandi Auto handles sales and servicing in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
Does the GMC Canyon hold its value, and what should you watch for as it ages?
Very strongly. It holds about 52% of its value after five years, against roughly 37% for mainstream American models here — one of the widest gaps in the segment. Hard-used off-roaders age unevenly, though, so on any Canyon the underbody, the differential seals and the condition of the suspension bushes matter more than the mileage. That level of detail is exactly what the inspection report on the individual car exists to give you.
Work out how often you will genuinely leave the tarmac — that single answer decides whether the AT4X premium is money well spent or money on a badge. If a slightly older truck would do the same job, the used GMCs listed now are the place to start.
