The current Sonata is a 4.9-metre sedan with one engine and three levels of equipment — a 2.5-litre four driving the front wheels in every version. Nothing about the mechanical package changes as you go up the range, which makes this an unusually simple car to buy. The shape is not the one this generation launched with: Hyundai restyled it heavily part-way through, swapping the low, divisive nose for a much squarer one.
How much does the Hyundai Sonata cost in the UAE?
Every 2026 Sonata shares the same 2.5-litre engine, so the whole climb from the 2.5L I4 Smart FWD at AED 117,000 to the 2.5L I4 Premium + at AED 148,995 buys equipment and not one extra horsepower. That is a large sum for kit alone, and deciding how far up you go is the only real decision on this car.
Hyundai Sonata or Toyota Camry?
The Sonata is the better-looking car and the better-equipped one at any given price, with a longer body and a cabin that feels a class up. Where it loses is the exit: the Toyota Camry holds its price far better and sells in days rather than weeks. The Honda Accord sits between the two on both counts.
What does a Hyundai Sonata cost to run in the UAE?
Expect about 12 Km/L from the 2.5 L four — reasonable for the size, since there is no V6 in the range to tempt you. Sales and service run through Juma Al Majid in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah; the practical consequence is that a full dealer service book is the cheapest depreciation insurance you can buy on this particular car.
Does the Hyundai Sonata hold its value, and what should you watch for as it ages?
Below the class — about 44% of its value after five years, against roughly 51% for the average used sedan here. CarSwitch's 1,149 Sonata inspections show a median of around 140,000 km, which reflects how the car is used: long highway commutes rather than short city runs, generally kinder to an engine than the number suggests. Segment behaviour, not a fault. It does mean the individual car's inspection report carries more weight here than the badge or the year.
Is a used Sonata the better buy?
Emphatically. An early-2020s example generally runs around AED 35,000 to AED 45,000, roughly 69% below the new entry price — about AED 80,000 saved, one of the widest new-to-used gaps of any sedan on the market here. The depreciation that hurts the first owner is the entire argument for being the second.
Decide how far up the equipment ladder you actually want to go, then compare that with the used Sonatas listed now.
