About Kia K8

Five metres of sedan, a 3.5-litre V6 and a rear cabin built for being driven in rather than driving — the K8 is priced against mid-size saloons and sized against the luxury ones. That mismatch is the entire appeal. The K8 is a recent nameplate, replacing the Cadenza at the start of this decade with a substantially longer and more ambitious car.

How much does the Kia K8 cost in the UAE?

Two grades, one engine, and the gap between them is unusually wide for what is essentially the same car. The PE GL3 DLX 3.5L costs AED 149,100 and the PE GL3 EX 3.5L AED 191,100, with the 3.5 L V6 and the full 5-seat body in both. Nothing about the entry car reads as a base model.

Which K8 trim is the one to buy?

The lower one, unless the rear seats are the point. It already has the V6, the length and the presence, which is what people buy a K8 for. The higher grade brings the premium audio, the extended driver assistance and the rear-passenger comfort features — worth it for a car that gets used as a chauffeur vehicle, hard to justify for a commuter.

Kia K8 or Toyota Camry?

Take the K8 if presence is what you want: it is longer, more powerful and considerably more imposing than anything at this price should be, and the interior is the most convincing Kia has built. The Toyota Camry is the safer financial choice, with better resale and a bigger service network. The Honda Accord is the sharper drive of the three and the smallest inside.

What does a Kia K8 cost to run in the UAE?

Around 10 Km/L, which is reasonable for a naturally aspirated V6 in a car this large. Servicing is where the badge pays off: Al Majid Motors' workshop rates across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah are a fraction of what an equivalently sized German saloon costs to maintain, and the V6 is a long-established engine rather than a highly stressed new one.

Does the Kia K8 hold its value, and what should you watch for as it ages?

Better than the badge average — about 56% of its value after five years, against roughly 51% for the Korean class here. Problems on this platform tend to appear well past where these cars currently sit, with the ones CarSwitch inspects arriving at a median of around 68,000 km. On a large sedan the things worth having checked are the rear-cabin electronics, the condition of the alloys and the front tyres, all of which the inspection report on the individual car will cover.

Look at the entry grade first — on this car it is the one that makes the arithmetic work. Then price a new one against the K8s already on the second-hand market, where the same V6 and the same length cost a good deal less.
