About Mitsubishi Outlander

The Outlander sold in the UAE is a plug-in hybrid: a 2.4 L petrol engine, an electric motor on each axle, and all-wheel drive as standard. It is the most technically ambitious car Mitsubishi offers here, and the one most misunderstood by buyers who assume a plug is a commitment. The current Outlander is a full redesign that moved the car onto a platform shared with Nissan, and it is larger and considerably better finished than the one before it.

How much does the Mitsubishi Outlander cost in the UAE?

Two versions of the same plug-in hybrid, separated by a very wide margin. The baseline car is AED 79,900 and the topline AED 153,000, with nothing in between — the difference is equipment and interior materials, not drivetrain. That makes this a straightforward choice between a well-priced PHEV and a fully loaded one.

Do you have to plug an Outlander in?

No. Charging is optional on this car: with an empty battery it runs as a conventional petrol hybrid and returns about 15 Km/L, so an owner with no home charger loses efficiency but nothing else. Plugging in overnight simply means short city trips run on electricity, which is where the savings are. Treat the socket as a bonus rather than a requirement.

Which Outlander trim is the one to buy?

The baseline, unless the interior finish matters a great deal to you. Both cars have the same battery, the same 2.4 L engine and the same all-wheel-drive system, so the entire driving experience is available at the lower price. The gap between them is large enough to fund several years of fuel.

Mitsubishi Outlander or Toyota RAV4?

The Outlander is the only one of these offering a plug-in system at this money, and the electric range covers most daily commuting without touching petrol. The Toyota RAV4 holds its value far better and has the wider service network; the Honda CR-V is the roomier conventional alternative. The Outlander is the enthusiast's economic case, not the safe one.

Does the Outlander hold its value, and what should you watch for as it ages?

Weakly, at about 46% after five years against roughly 55% for the average used SUV in the Emirates. The ones CarSwitch inspects in the UAE arrive at a median of around 102,000 km and nothing in our findings sits above the rate we would expect for SUVs at that distance. On a plug-in, the additional question is battery health and charging history, which is exactly what the report on an individual car should answer before you commit.

Is a used Outlander the better buy?

Yes, and by a wide margin. A nearly new example generally runs around AED 45,000 to AED 95,000 depending on specification, roughly 45% below the new entry price — about AED 35,000 saved.

The depreciation on this model is severe enough that buying second-hand is the sensible default: begin with the used Outlanders listed now.
