SE is where the Range Rover range begins, and it is a better place to start than the word "entry" suggests. The suspension, the drivetrain and the body are the same as on the cars above it; what is missing is upholstery, audio and detailing. Thirteen versions are listed in the UAE, covering the Sport and the long-wheelbase full-size car.
How much does a Range Rover SE cost in the UAE?
The list is wide because it spans two bodies. AED 486,000 opens it with the Sport D350 3.0L and AED 683,815 reaches the LWB P360. Sport SE versions sit at the lower end with a choice of diesel, petrol six, V8 and plug-in hybrid; the long-wheelbase cars sit above them.
Is SE enough, or should you step up?
SE is enough for most owners, and it is the specification that makes the strongest financial case in the whole range. Everything that makes a Range Rover feel like one — the air suspension, the driving position, the isolation, the off-road hardware — is standard here. What you give up is the leather grade, the speaker count and some exterior brightwork, none of which changes a single kilometre of the drive.
Range Rover SE or Audi Q7?
The Range Rover has presence and capability the Audi cannot match, and in SE form it undercuts what most buyers assume the badge costs. The Audi Q7 answers with seven seats, lower running costs and a more forgiving ownership record. Inside the range, the HSE is the next step up and the Sport the more driver-focused body.
Does an SE hold its value, and what should you watch for as it ages?
Unusually strongly for a Range Rover: about 64% of its value after five years, against roughly 48% for European premium cars here — the modest specification is part of the reason, because there is less expensive equipment to age badly. What still needs checking is the air suspension and the infotainment system, the two things that generate bills on every car in this family, both of which the inspection report on an individual car will settle before you commit.
Drive an SE before assuming you need more specification — on this car the badge grade changes far less than the brochure implies. The used Range Rover listings make that comparison easy to run.
