About Chevrolet Captiva

Seven seats for the price of a well-equipped compact crossover is the Captiva's argument, and in the UAE it now comes two ways: a 1.5-litre turbo petrol, or a plug-in hybrid at the top of the range. The badge is old; the car wearing it is not. The badge was moved onto a Chinese-built model at the end of the last decade, so nothing under it carries over from the original.

How much does the Chevrolet Captiva cost in the UAE?

The petrol cars occupy the bottom two-thirds of the 2026 range, starting at AED 75,700 for the LS 1.5T, and the two plug-in hybrids sit above them, ending at AED 111,000 for the PHEV Premier FWD. The interesting number is the step between the dearest petrol and the cheapest plug-in — small enough that the hybrid is worth costing out properly.

Which Captiva trim is the one to buy?

Choose the drivetrain before the equipment. The entry petrol car already gives you 7 seats, the big touchscreen and the same body, so paying up the petrol range buys comfort rather than capability. The plug-in is the one that changes your monthly costs, and it only pays back if you commute daily and can charge at home or at work.

Chevrolet Captiva or Kia Sorento?

Nothing else gives you three rows this cheaply, and for a growing family that is the whole decision — the Captiva's third row exists for real use, not for show. The Kia Sorento is the better-built, better-riding car and holds its money more convincingly. The Hyundai Palisade is bigger again, and priced accordingly.

Does the Chevrolet Captiva hold its value, and what should you watch for as it ages?

It does what its class does — about 41% of its value after five years, level with the family SUV average here and behind Chevrolet's own 48%. Cars in this segment do school runs and airport trips, so they arrive with high wear on the interior and, often, previous panel work; that is the segment, not the model. Read the inspection report on the specific car before you argue about price.

Is a used Captiva the better buy?

Probably not, and this is one of the few cars where that is true. A nearly new example generally runs around AED 65,000 to AED 80,000 — about 14% under the new entry price, roughly AED 10,000 saved — for which you give up the warranty and the plug-in option.

Price the new car first, then see whether the used Captivas listed now justify the gap.
