The 720S is McLaren's Super Series car: a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 in a carbon tub, with a glasshouse designed around visibility rather than drama. It is offered here as a coupé and as a retractable-hardtop Spider.
How much does the McLaren 720S cost in the UAE?
The gap between a fixed and a folding roof is unusually small here — AED 1,215,000 for the 4.0T Coupe against AED 1,260,000 for the 4.0T Spider. On most mid-engined rivals the open car carries a far larger premium, which makes the Spider much easier to justify on this model than on those.
Coupé or Spider?
The Spider, for how these cars are actually used here — the hardtop stows in around eleven seconds and seals like a coupé roof when raised, and the structure loses almost nothing because the strength is in the tub rather than the roof. The coupé is marginally lighter and slightly cheaper, and the better track car.
McLaren 720S or Ferrari F8 Tributo?
The 720S is the faster and more capable car — 710 BHP, 770 Nm, 2.9 seconds to 100 km/h and visibility no rival matches — and it rides better than a car this quick has any right to. The Ferrari F8 Tributo is more theatrical and holds its value better; the 600LT is the sharper, smaller alternative.
What does a 720S cost to run here?
About 6 Km/L, with tyres, brakes and scheduled service as the recurring costs. The carbon structure does not corrode, which counts over a decade in this climate, but the hydraulic suspension and the electronics are specialist work and belong with the authorised network. A complete service file protects the resale more than mileage does.
Try the Spider first — given how little separates the two, the coupé has to earn its place rather than the other way round.
