One car, one specification. The A 45 S carries the most powerful four-cylinder engine Mercedes builds, and in the UAE it comes only as the compact saloon — no hatchback, no lesser version. That engine survived the A-Class facelift untouched, though the steering wheel and infotainment around it did not.
How much does the Mercedes-AMG A 45 S cost in the UAE?
AED 373,100 for the S 4MATIC+ Compact Saloon, and there is nothing else on the price list. That figure puts a compact saloon above cars from a class up, which is the whole argument about this model: the money goes on a hand-assembled engine and a rear axle that can send torque to a single wheel, not on space or equipment.
Mercedes-AMG A 45 S or the A 35?
The A 45 S earns its premium in hardware — a different engine, not a remap, and a rear differential that changes how the car turns. It will still feel special in five years. The A 35 further down the A-Class range costs a great deal less and concedes less than the price gap suggests on a public road. Buy the 45 only if the engineering is the point.
What does an A 45 S cost to run in the UAE?
Expect roughly 10 Km/L driven gently and considerably worse driven the way it invites. This is a highly stressed engine that wants its oil changes on schedule and its fuel from the higher-octane pump, and brakes and tyres are consumables here rather than five-year items. Service runs through the authorised Dubai network.
Does the A 45 S hold its value, and what should you watch for as it ages?
Better than the standard car — about 49% after five years against roughly 43% for German premium saloons here. Mileage is what tells the story on these: the ones CarSwitch inspects sit at a median of around 115,000 km, high for the type, which means most have been used hard rather than kept for weekends. Gearbox behaviour and an unbroken service record matter far more than cosmetics.
If the price is the sticking point, the AMG A 35 is the same idea with softer edges — otherwise this is the last of the small hand-built AMGs. Either way, the used A 45s listed now are where the choice gets interesting.
